and won't be short of scheduling Alabama and Clemson as our final two games. And I am perfectly fine with that. Our most likely high watermark is going to be an NY6 game which would qualify as BYU's most prestigious bowl game ever.
So with that said, the only thing that stands in the way is Boise State. If BYU does want to add a couple more games to the schedule I don't really see much value in scheduling a team on par of more competitive than Boise State. I don't think we necessarily need to seal the deal with a NY6 bowl by adding a big name. In fact I think it adds unnecessary risk. There is no risk by adding a couple mid level G5 schools. In fact adding those late in the season (Nov and even Dec) allows BYU to continue to play games and not be a forgotten program and easily leapfrogged while the B10 and P12 are still playing games.
It feels cowardly and at any other time I'd love to schedule the toughest game we possibly can, but with BYU on the verge of getting a NY6, along with the cash and prestige that comes with it I think it's time to minimize risk and make the most of this Covid season. Which could be the greatest season in the Indy era and maybe the greatest since 84.
