We really need to begin to give this staff the benefit of the doubt in regards to recruiting.
The national scouting services are very, very, very incomplete evaluators of the athletic talent in our country. Every college coach knows this. Even the Sabans, Meyers, & Dabos — who glean the majority of the top recruits. Those guys didn't rise to the top putting their trust mainly in 4 & 5 star kids, though.
