(round, smooth-headed) bolts. I hit on the strategy of grabbing the 1 1/2" bolts on the top and bottom with vise grips, then using an open-end wrench to unscrew the nut. Worked like a charm, though on about half of them, I had to hit the nuts with a torch for a minute. But that loosened them up every time.
