Had done a couple 50k races during the preceding years and summited some decent sized mountains on skis (nothing crazy) in the preceding years. Last year I did my first half ironman triathlon. A week later herniated a disc. Waited 8 months on it hoping it would heal without surgery. Finally had a discectomy in April of this year. Rough 4-5 month recovery from surgery. I’m just now getting back to running 15-20 miles per week. Planning on cycling more in the coming years. Hoping to get back to the ski mountaineering. Haven’t decided yet if I’ll try to get back to the long distance running or just accept that it’s a casualty of life with a degenerative back.
