The punt fake was too much. I get it.
But honestly - if you stop calling the obvious penalties it can become a safety issue. Players get frustrated when the rules they've been playing by are suddenly not enforced and they react to that.

It's funny that Gilmore would say something about throwing when ahead by that much in the fourth, when earlier they were talking about getting backups in and giving them meaningful reps.

I don't know about throwing deep. But you follow the game plan. If the defense is covering the underneath routes and the long one is the one that is open, you throw it. There is no shame at all in the backups running the normal playbook - you want them ready to run those plays if the person they back up can't go for some reason. During a pandemic, it seems particularly clear why you'd want the backups to have meaningful experience running the plays.

But I'm not upset with it not being called. I just disagree with the idea of not calling penalties just because one team is way ahead. You might expand what you consider to be the gray area - but you can't totally ignore the blatant ones.
