I don't think he was projects as the starter. I think he was going to compete.
But saying he was projected to be the starter is probably stronger support for him than is realistic.
I think he would add depth, maybe had a chance to start depending on how he performed, and that BYU was looking at replacing two grad transfers off of last year's team, so adding him was great.
At the same time, BYU had other options - I'd love to have kept him, but he wasn't the source of my hope for a good season.

DHC was never projected to be the starter. He was going to be 3rd string. He saw that and that's why he left.
