Pretty sure Tom has said black "dilutes the brand"
I can't remember if it was an interview or Twitter thread, but that was maybe 3-4 years ago? I'll try to find it. Might be his opinion only. I am fine with this combination FWIW. Black would be great, but it would have to have been arranged a long time ago, and not sure we knew we'd even be playing on 10/31 at a certain point earlier in 2020.

Black out would have made way more sense. Don’t understand why they won’t do the black unis anymore. Recruits love them.
