Not sure how much football I've watched? That was a bit harsh. Look dude,
I'm not saying my expectation was for Romney to go out and look like Wilson. Pimpin4Paradise started this thread by saying he was bothered that the coaches left Romney in there for as long as they did and that the offense with Romney has been stagnant this year. I was merely agreeing in that assessment and perhaps was a bit hyperbolic in my concern if he were called upon in the future.

That being said, I've been watching football long enough to know that what we saw today and for much of the year from Romney is not "what happens when you put the back ups in when you are already ahead." Even if I thought that was true, I wouldn't just accept it and I doubt our coaching staff does either. Like I said previously, I'm not faulting Romney for back up players blocking a running play poorly and there being a poor result because of that. I'm talking about passing plays in which the throw was bad, or in the case of today, no pass is even attempted and should have been. That's completely on Romney and in my imperfect memory of his performance this year, has been a bit of a problem. One example of this from today (that I can remember off the top of my head) is Romney rolling out on 3rd down, should have let it go, had a man open, but didn't let it go got tackled and we punted. The cameras caught Grimes letting Romney have it on the sideline right after. Also, Romney had the entire starting o line in there the first drive, and perhaps longer so I don't think my criticism can be completely, or largely, explained away by pointing to the 2nd and 3rd stringers being in there. Romney is a player who has had real starting experience in meaningful games against real competition so I hold him to a bit of a higher standard, even when playing with 2nd stringers, and I think that is reasonable. Moreover, our 2nd and 3rd stringers weren't going up against anything resembling a quality opponent today. I, and apparently others on this Board expect more from our 2nd and 3rd stringers running vanilla offense against an opponent like that. Apparently you do not and that's cool.

Finally, I estimate my time watching football to be roughly 30 years, roughly 25 of those years watching at unhealthy levels.
