I'm calling it. BYU vs Cincinnati will be announced soon.

The only way it doesn't happen is if BYU can land a game with a ranked P5. It makes too much sense to all three parties: BYU, Cincinnati, and ESPN.

It's a win-win for Cincinnati.  The TV payout for a matchup between top 10 BYU and Cincinnati will be bigger than a NY6 game for them.  NY6 games arent paying nearly as much this year and they would have to share it with the conference.  They can keep the payout for a BYU game 100% to themselves.

ESPN definitely wants it.  If BYU vs Cincinnati doesnt happen in the regular season, it's likely to happen in a NY6 game.  They'd rather it happen in the regular season because it would save the NY6 spot for a more lucrative matchup.  It would also add one more high dollar game for them in a year lacking high dollar games.

Both BYU and Cincinnati know that a playoff bid isn't a possibility.  If they play each other, then it exposes the playoff system for the sham that it is.

BYU has probably been the holdout.  They have the most to lose if they don't win.  They probably lose their NY6 bid, from which they would otherwise get 100% of the payout.  But a NY6 bid is growing increasingly unlikely even without a loss on their record.

I expect the game to be played with 100% of the proceeds going to the loser.  The winner will take the spoils of the NY6 invite.
