He discussed that there is still a lot of football left to be played and that these rankings (outside of maybe the top 4) will adjust week to week. He feels that BYU will come in between 8-10 in the initial rankings.

As he was talking about this on BYUSN, I decided to take a look at the teams in front of BYU and who they play, and also the teams behind them making up the top 15 in the AP and Coaches Poll.

AP TOP 25
Alabama: vs #22 AUB, @ARK. They should win out and head to the SEC Champ game at 9-0.
Notre Dame: @ 25 UNC, vs SYR, @Wake. Notre Dame should win out and get to the ACC Champ game at 11-0
Ohio State: @ Ill, @ MSU, vs MICH. OSU should win out and get to the BIG10 Champ game at 7-0
Clemson: @FSU, vs PITT, @VT. They should win out and get to the ACC Champ game at 10-1
Texas A&M: vs MISS, vs LSU, @ #22 AUB, @ TENN. I think A&M will lose one of these and get to 9-2.
Florida: vs UK, @ Tenn, vs LSU. Florida should win out and get to 9-1. I see them in the SEC champ game.
Cincinnati: @ Temp, @ #24 Tulsa. Cincy should win out and get to 10- and play in the ACC Champ game.
BYU: vs SDSU. They should beat SDSU and get to 10-0.
Oregon: @ORST, @ CAL, vs Wash. Oregon should go at least 2-1 or 3-0. They will then be 5-1 or 6-0
Miami: vs GT, @ Wake, vs UNC, vs GT. Miami should to at least 3-1 or maybe 4-0 down the stretch.
Northwestern: @ MSU, @ MINN, vs Ill. They should win out and get to 8-0 and play in the BIG10 Champ Game.
Indiana: vs MD, @ WISC, vs PUR. Indiana could go 2-1 or 3-0.
Georgia: @SC, vs VAN. Even if they win both and get to 7-2 I don't think they leapfrog BYU.
Oklahoma: @ WVU, vs BAY. I think Oklahoma will finish out 8-2, but again I don't think they will leapfrog BYU.
Iowa State: W #20 TX, vs WVU. They could go 1-1 or 2-0. Either way, I don't think they leapfrog BYU.

As you can see, there is ALOT of football left to be played, and I didn't even include the CHAMP Games which could drop some of these teams as well.

Tonight, whether BYU lands #8 or falls to #14 in the CFP, there is still a lot left to go and teams will jostle and move up and down. I do think we need another game or two (as I have said all along). But, I am not going to worry about where they come in tonight, I will worry about what BYU does after the rankings are released to get into that 10 or above sweet spot to get them into an NY6 game.
