1. For some reason, the CFP Committee clearly wanted to make a statement about BYU. What exactly the purpose of the statement is isn't readily clear to me (i.e., I get not putting BYU with a chance at a playoff berth ultimately, but to clearly and deliberately demote BYU doesn't make a lot of sense to me).

2. Ultimately, it doesn't really matter in the sense that all BYU can do is control what they can control in the form of scheduling games that can be scheduled under the circumstances and then winning those games by as decisively as possible.
