There's no way a P5 team schedules us. They don't want to give us any advantage to eat any of the NY6 pie. The only way would be if a Pac12 team works out. That's the risk we might have to try for on 12/5 or 12/19.
Other G5 options that move the needle slightly would be Marshall, Liberty, Cincinnati, Louisiana, Coastal Carolina, Tulsa or SMU.
12/5 - Cincy is the only one with this date open. There's no way they schedule us unless they want to go for the playoffs. I don't see that happening. I think they stand pat with a NY6 bowl and revel in the $4M.
12/19 - All of the teams on the list above have an opening on this day except for Cincy and Tulsa (they will potentially play each other that day in the AAC championship). Do any of the teams sign up? BYU will probably have to pay them a pretty penny in order for them to sign up.
Now if the SDSU game can be moved to 12/5 then that opens more possibilities. But SDSU already has a game on 12/5 so it would have to be canceled pretty soon for that game to be moved. Playing SDSU this week would have been ideal but the timing wasn't right.
