This idea might have merit.

Hold a 12 to 16 team invitational playoff of conference champions and deserving indy / at large teams. Include P5 conf champs if snubbed by CFP.
Televise all games on espn/ byutv /or partner stations.

Build a competing tournament. Stick it to the cfp.

Do something like NIT in basketball.
