Andy Staples suggests UNC and Oregon find ways to play BYU
“He should call Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott and impress upon Scott that the Pac-12 needs BYU as much as BYU needs the Pac-12. Oregon is the highest-ranked Pac-12 team at No. 15. The league needs the Ducks to play BYU on Dec. 5 a lot more than it needs the Ducks to play at Cal on that day. Adding a quality opponent to the schedule of a conference title contender might be the only chance the Pac-12 has of being considered for the Playoff (and it still might not be).
Holmoe also should call North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham. The ACC allowed its teams to play one nonconference game this season, but North Carolina’s game against Charlotte was canceled. The Tar Heels are scheduled to play Western Carolina on Dec. 5, but if they want to show how good Mack Brown’s team is they could buy out that game and play the Cougars. Or they could buy out the Western Carolina game, take a week off between Notre Dame and Miami and play BYU on Dec. 19. I’d suggest the ACC give Clemson the option of traveling to Tallahassee for a makeup game against Florida State or playing a home game against BYU on Dec. 12, but the Cougars are already scheduled to face San Diego State that day.”
