If the Big12 was smart they'd follow the SEC model to conference structure.
14 teams. 7 teams on each side. 8 conference games, 4 OOC.

The big 12 beats up on each other all season and then plays a CCG which will always be a rematch game. That's an awfully stupid recipe for having a team undefeated at the end of the year.

They'd be smart to sway the AZ schools to leave for more money and better leadership and better TV situation. Then nab BYU (of course) and Cincy. The chances of getting a team into the playoff goes up. Basketball gets a couple of great additions. They get a new time zone to play with. Play 4 OOC games.

As a BYU fan I'd obviously love this, but speaking from a football/business standpoint, it strengthens the conference and increases the odds of playoff.
