I’ve seen enough people make comments like Oregon or Cincinnati need to be ranked top 12 or it hurts BYU but it makes no sense. Is this a confusing point?

There are only 12 spots... ideally it’s the 12 highest CFP ranks.

It does matter. Every team not in the top12 replaces one from the top 12.
