Because then the G5 autobid doesn’t go to a team ranked below BYU. That means
that a lower ranked BYU has a better chance to get in because bids aren’t going to teams ranked below BYU. If all the auto bids go to top 11 teams then a 12th ranked BYU can get in an NY6. If one of the auto bids is below #12 then #12 doesn’t get in.
