I was at Home Depot tonight and there was a couple in front of me that looked poorer than average. They also looked like they don’t buy a lot of tools. The cashier wasn’t trying to upsell them on the warranty but you know, it always pops up. He briefly explained it and the guy said, yeah it sounds like we should get that.
I’m cool with buying warranties if you want one or have the money, whatever. But i don’t think they are necessary and i don’t like them. Home Depot will take back almost anything for almost any reason. And tools come with manufacturer warranties already. Also in my many years of buying tools, i don’t think I’ve ever gotten a lemon.
I guess my point is that warranties are a tax on the poor and elderly and i don’t like that. I don’t like business practices that prey on the uninformed or the undereducated. Maybe tool warranties are not the absolute best example.
