While Barcello has separated himself as the leader of this team, there really isn't a definitive 2nd option right now (hopefully its Haarms as he plays more minutes). There are a bunch of guys with talent who are good players but this team really needs a second scorer to step up. And whether that happens will play a large role in structuring Pope's rotation for the rest of the season. Because frankly, a bunch of guys are playing frantically right now as they aren't feeling comfortable in their roles. Going forward I assume this is the starting 5:
Barcello
Averette
Harding
Haarms
Lee (Maybe Haarms at the 5 with Lohner at the 4?)
So Pope is gonna have to clearly define roles for: Lohner, Knell, Harward, Johnson, George, Wade, Lowell & Erickson. That is a lot of talent sitting on the bench trying to get minutes. And while Lohner, Knell & Harward seem to have established themselves in the eyes of the staff, the rest could be dealing with a lot of Yo-Yoing and inconsistent minutes. I'd like to see Johnson fall into that first group of Lohner/Knell/Harward as the primary backup option at the 2 spot because of his feel for the game. He's shown to be more than just a catch & shoot guy, he's got playmaking ability too.
It may be that George plays exclusively as a defensive stopper when there's an opposing wing that is causing BYU fits. Lowell becomes an option against zone teams as a stretch 4 or to take advantage of a big who is a particularly bad defender on the perimeter. Wade would then be a heat check option off the bench for a couple of minutes, just to see if he's feeling it. And Erickson can be an occasional energy guy when needed.
