Slip sliding car and Afghanistan.
When I was 16, I lived on 2100 South in Salt Lake east of the Foothill BLVD. I went to Highland High so the drive down to Sugarhouse is all downhill. One morning it had been snowing and my ward buddy who usually picked me up in his Jeep had already left or didn't come for some reason so I had to drive my little GMC Sonoma to school. Well as soon as I hit Scenic Drive the ice took over and I started sliding. I could stop no matter what I tried to do. Eventually, as I was nearing Foothill BLVD I had to decide to either run into the telephone pole or take my chances sliding into traffic. I decide to slide through the Foothill traffic and most likely get t-boned by someone going upwards of 50mph (coming right off of I-215). When I looked up, the light was green and all cross traffic was stopped at the light and I slid right on through the intersection.

In Afghanistan, my platoon was supporting our sister battalion in getting some election ballots. We took up a blocking position at a choke point along a large dam and lake. In the later morning, they started shooting recoilless rifle rounds at us. After the second round, our SIGINT teams heard a transmission saying something like, "Adjust 50m and you're right on top of them". The second round had been pretty dang close to my 3rd squad. I moved my guys and then we hunkered down waiting for what seemed like an eternity then the SIGINT guys relayed their transmission saying "The gun is broken, get Mohammad here to fix it fast". That gave us enough time to walk in our 60mm mortars and we took care of those punks and their recoilless rifle. Had they been able to get off the third round, I'm sure we would have had casualties.
