When the schedule fell out we were left on our own and Tom basically had to cobble together a bunch of pay games with C-USA and Sunbelt teams because there were no other options. He has done a remarkable job of making a season happen but his job has been all up hill because nobody is obligated to do anything for BYU.
Before the season started I really hoped BYU could have arranged a scheduling agreement with the AAC and I think its commissioner was onboard with its members scheduling us. Unfortunately the other schools didn’t see any value to doing so we didn’t get anything (except Navy).
We are at a point where schools like Liberty and Coastal Carolina don’t have an incentive to play BYU now because they want to end the season ranked for recruiting purposes and wins over either for BYU don’t move the needle with a P5 centric CFP committee. If there are openings it is likely the conferences will take care of their own before they accommodate us. Tom was dealt a crappy hand to begin with but has really played it the best he could.
