Oh, where to start.

Liberty and CCU were both members of the Big South Conference. And pretty much it was an instant rivalry. The well to do school from Virginia vs the smaller, more country-like school in SC. We both fought to see who the best in the Big South would be, especially in football. One year we were number 1 in FCS and they beat us 15-14. Liberty has also tried for years to move up to FBS and join a conference. There was some shock and resentment when the Sun Belt announced it selected CCU to join and move up to FBS. A few years later, Liberty moved up to FBS as an independent and our game against them this year was made after many conferences decided to go to all conference or limited non-conference schedule.

So BeatLiberty is part of a lot of CCU fans' DNA.
