I keep trying to remind myself that Saturday's game is basically a
"no lose" situation as far as BYU's postseason prospects.

Without this game, the CFP committee had BYU locked out of a NY6 bowl regardless of how well BYU played against SDSU (and regardless of what happened in other games that may seem to have benefitted BYU).

Along those lines, if BYU loses this game (regardless of the score), they will very likely still go to the same bottom tier bowl game that they'd get if they didn't play the game at all.

But if BYU wins on Saturday (and beats SDSU), the CFP's case for excluding BYU from a NY6 bowl is much weaker. They either have to invite BYU or risk an absolute avalanche of criticism (which, IMO, will totally dwarf the criticism they've received to date).

As much as they desperately want to keep as much NY6 money as possible within the P5 cartel, they may reluctantly choose the former as a matter of self-preservation (at least they're much more likely to lean this way than they were before the game was scheduled).

So, in a nutshell, Saturday's game is more or less like playing with "house money."

That being said, my mood for the rest of the weekend will almost certainly be worse if BYU loses than if BYU had not played at all. So I need to keep reminding myself of the above points.
