I know everyone fawns over yards and touchdowns, but that's not always the best indicator of how good a qb is. And in an offense like we run that is very balanced, you're just not going to see Zach slinging it 40 times a game. So his yards won't be as gaudy as some of our former qb's. But for fun, check this out.
Zach Wilson 2020- QBR 205.3, completion %- 74.3, yards- 2724, yards per attempt- 13.3, TD/Int- 26/2
Max Hall 2009- QBR 160.1, completion %- 67.2, yards- 3560, yards per attempt- 8.7, TD/Int- 33/14
John Beck 2006- QBR 169.1, completion %- 69.3, yards- 3885, TD/Int- 32/8
Steve Sarkisian 1996- QBR 173.6, completion %- 68.8, yards- 4027, yards per attempt- 10, TD/Int- 33/12
John Walsh 1993 (better than 94)- QBR 156, completion %- 61.5, yards- 3727, yards per attempt- 9.4, TD/Int- 28/15
Ty Detmer 1990 (Heisman season)- QBR 155.9, completion %- 64.2, yards- 5188 (just insane), yards per attempt- 10, TD/Int- 41/28
Robbie Bosco 1984 (national championship year was his best)- QBR 151.8, completion %- 61.8, yards- 3875, yards per attempt- 8.5, TD/Int- 33/11
Steve Young 1983- QBR 168.5, completion %- 71.3, yards- 3902, yards per attempt- 9.1, TD/Int- 33/10
Jim McMahon 1980 (his best season)- QBR 176.9, completion %- 63.8, yards- 4571, yards per attempt- 10.3, TD/Int- 47/18
So, he's currently on pace to set the BYU record for best QBR, best completion percentage, most yards per attempt, and best TD/int ratio. Holy moly you guys. His numbers are even more impressive than I've realized.
In my opinion the top 3 BYU qb's have been Ty Detmer, Jim McMahon, and Steve Young in that order. If Zach keeps this up and if we can win out and get into a NY6 bowl game, I think it might be fair to put him up there with those 3 and possibly even put him right ahead of Steve Young. What do you guys think? I think he will deserve to be on the BYU Mount Rushmore of qb's.
