Baylor Romney just has so much more experience now than either Jaren Hall or Jacob Conover. Both Jaren and Jacob would appear to have stronger arms, and Jaren is a superior athlete. That being said, when really called upon to perform Baylor has consistently performed well. I would say that Baylor performed at least as well as Jaren in 2019 but now Baylor has much more experience. It is tough to downplay the importance of experience at the QB position.
As fans we will always be looking for the more talented players to see the field. But we should recognize the value of having a steady hand at the helm-- a guy who will make good reads, good decisions, and executes the offense as designed is probably just what BYU needs to start the year.
That being said, I think that Jaren Hall will likely win the job and be the starter in game 1-- if he can stay healthy. The reality is though, that given the difficult schedule next year, it would be a small miracle if we don't need all 3 of these qb's to play significant roles next year.
