A rare peek inside
A rare peek inside the best locker room from Pope last night. He was actually giddy over winning the game, then describing how difficult it is, and how much work it is to have the best locker room in America. It was surprising to me to hear him mention Connor Harding as the Chi cog in helping to promote this unity and even problem-solving.

Having played high school ball and then watching my son to do the same, I remember clearly how those on the court want to stay there and those on the bench want to be on the court, yet there are only five spots. Sometimes frustration can boil over. Many on cougar board were focusing on Connor Harding alone.

I have a different take. I am guessing there are many frustrated at not being able to get into a rhythm because of the rotation of minutes from Coach. You can bet that there are a lot of discussions in that locker room about sacrifice and team unity. Harding probably stepped up and in so doing became an example that struck a chord with Coach Pope. For Coach to only mention one name speaks volumes. I cannot pretend to know what happened. Pope was very shrewd to not go to any details and I was actually surprised that Durrant and Wrubbel didn’t follow up with more specific questions but I understand.

It was fascinating to hear. Normally coaches keep locker room talk very private. They also tell their players to do the same. So I am just guessing or surmising that Connor Harding played a real leadership role by volunteering to play fewer minutes or not start or whatever. As such, this most likely benefited all the other teammates who are yearning to play more and sit less. Pope basically wanted to share that problems had been solved but he just did not want to go into any detail. We are lucky to have him. 80K loses his guys. They transfer.
