You have my sympathy. It's awful. For me, prevention is key.
Once the vertigo starts, the only thing that helps me is sleep and that is a real challenge when laying down and closing my eyes makes the spinning feel worse, not better. The goal of the valium or even meclizine, is really just to knock myself out so my brain can reset a little. Occasionally, I'll have an attack come back after sleep but usually I can sleep them off. Keeping the meds down long enough for them to actually absorb is my biggest challenge. I've been through this for long enough that my puke prevention muscles are basically gone. Your doc will give you a prescription for Nausea meds if you ask.

In addition to salt and caffeine, I find that large amounts of sugar also cause me problems. Consistency is also key. You can't limit your salt intake to 2000 mg/day but then eat it all in one sitting. You have to spread the salt consumption out so your body has a steady flow of salt and sugar rather than jolts of it. My attacks seem to come in bunches. I'll be miserable for 6 weeks but then do pretty well for 6-9 months. then I start all over again.

LaserCoug is right when he says Meniere's is really just a name given to a bunch of symptoms that don't have another good explanation. What that ultimately means is that your Meniere's and mine could be totally different physiologically and what works for me may have no impact on you. It seem's to burn itself out with some people over time. I'm about 10 years in and I still have at least a couple pretty severe attacks each year. My hearing is shot. I wear hearing aids in both ears. I've tried all the herbal cocktails the online groups recommend and for me, they mostly seem to do nothing. I do take a daily diuretic and I think it helps. Most ENT docs don't love treating it because they can't actually do much. If you can, find an Otologist/Neurotologist/inner-ear specialist. They still can't fix it but at least they are more familiar with it. In Utah County, Spencer Darley is the only one and I like him.

Good luck! I hope it eases up for you.
