Same in bonuses- multiple times the cattle didn't get bonuses due to not hitting milestones (company ones)
and 'strategically important' employees (i.e. management) still got payouts.
One of the things I like about my current place- fully funded bonuses for all employees for something like 20 years.

This is all true. I've also learned that there are different classes of stock in privately held firms.
