The works toilet bowl cleaner will dissolve the deposits pretty quickly. Careful
It may also react with any metal parts but it will not react as quickly. Don’t leave it in too long. I would test a small part first.

That happened to me. I think it wasn’t hard water deposits but it was dried soap. I switched soaps and it went away.
