My wife and I were in our office and heard a high pitched squealing noise. I followed the noise to the kitchen and discovered the disposal running with no water on. It wasn’t really loud, but high pitched and painful.
I quickly turned the disposal off and ran some cold water. Realizing how bad it smelled, I opened up the cabinets under the sink and saw a little smoke escape out the doors. I pulled a mixer and some plastic bags away from the side of the unit under the sink and both the mixer and a bag had started to melt.
She had done the dishes with ear buds in and left the disposal running for almost 10 minutes.
And now I know how to burn down the house in a cool, delayed Jason Bourne style if I need time to escape but burn the place down behind me.
