Jimmy Mac was something of a pioneer in creatively throwing off cycle with pure touch and intuition.
It's a tragedy that orthopedic surgeons vent weren't as good as they are now because if he could have stayed healthy I think Jimmy Mac would have been an NFL Hall of famer as well.
He might not have been the raw athletic talent that Steve Young was, but he had those other aspects of athleticism like quick twitch reflex and hand-eye coordination.
Some guys play the position with artistry and some more with science. Tom Brady is a technician. Joe Montana was an artist. I think Zach Wilson leans more towards the creative aspect of the position.
Now they all need to understand what the defense is doing, so that is not to downplay the cerebral aspect of the game. But he tends to be creative off-cycle and does not get bogged down in trying to have perfect footwork, when a creative release can do the job.
They used to try to coach that out of players. It's become more popular to let quarterbacks just run with it if it works. It definitely seems to work for Zach.
