a few questions
using Football as a category, but applying the principal of what I am about to ask, I want to get some views on this statement. I am a long time significant contributor to the Cougar Club, being a Legacy 3 member. Love the school, and the values it espouses, wish it was a bit more like the BYU I attended in its enforcement, but leave that for another day. Two members of my family had athletic experiences at the Y, that were incredibly positive, loved their coaches, and are forever indebted. With that, getting close to a few of the programs, not real close but close enough, I have realized that not all young men and young women, have that kind of experience. There are, the would have been solid players, as evidenced by either how they played when they played, or the ones who transferred and had success elsewhere. With so many blow outs in both football and basketball over the previous years, I have seen many instances, where dressing/playing more kids in games, would have kept some kids around, when we would need them. It has cost us some Legacy recruits, when parent is not happy about how son/daughter was not trusted enough to get minutes in a blowout, in spite of coaches always saying otherwise. Where we are taught as a tenant of our faith to always care about the one, and when a 4th string point guard, or a 3rd team lineman would not have cost us the game, and playing them would have made a difference in their lives. This year, I decided to pay attn to the guys Greg Wrubell never talks about, the guys that are never guests on the coaches programs, the guys on scout team, or who don't travel in hoops. Having watched the way guys like Roy Williams treats the guys at the end of his bench, and then watching Kalani and Pope treat their end of bench guys, outwardly anyway, I am not that impressed with their commitment to make it a great experience for all athletes at BYU. This has led to a stall in my contributions, at a time when I have significant means to do so, yet every time I see these instances, it jolts me. Am I caring about something that should not matter. I have no horse in this race.
