We were in the same situation.
I really wanted the Toyota too but just like you really wanted/needed the rear cargo. We went with the Yukon XL with the 6.2L for towing. And we love it. The Suburban/Yukon platform is very solid.

I still have my 2004 Suburban. At the time we bought it we were considering a Tahoe...glad we went bigger...
