My Grandpa was a huge Bills fan and my best friend. My grandma tells stories of him threatening to throw out his Bills stuff after each Super Bowl loss, only to come back. I spent every summer with my family in upstate NY. We’d go to training camp every August at St. John Fisher College.

It was never a super exciting fandom, unlike the highs I had as a Yankees fan. I’d call my grandpa after the game every Sunday and we’d vent forever. I didn’t always get to watch, I had two other local teams (and it was even worse when I moved out West), but I always had that call with my grandpa.

Rob Johnson. Alex Van Pelt. Drew Bledsoe. JP Losman (I bought his jersey!) Trent Edwards. Ryan Fitzpatrick. EJ Manuel. Kyle Orton was the best QB we had in 10 years! Tyrod. And now finally Josh. There were some others sprinkled in, but it’s never been like now. Ever.

Seriously, the highlight of my fandom before this was Andy Dalton hitting Tyler Boyd to beat the Ravens and put the Bills into the playoffs at 9-7.

This was a fun season. Extremely fun. I found myself wishing my Grandpa was still around to call after each game. He would’ve loved it.
