FWIW-A college friend found himself in a similar situation after graduating

and working in his field for about 10 years.

The compensation numbers were different and WFH wasn’t really a ‘thing’, but the opportunity and sentiments were very similar. He chose to take the higher pay stating that he could retire earlier and then spend more time with his family. He said his wife and kids would understand why he wasn’t ever going to be around for a while. His kids were young at the time.

Fast forward to today: Divorced and his two oldest kids have had some really tough struggles in life.

Obviously, this is just one example and there were other factors that led to his current situation. But he admits that not seeing his family so that he could ‘chase an extra buck’ was a major factor.
