please share awkward moments listening to music or watching TV with your parents
mine was riding in the car somewhere with my dad when I was 15 and DMB's 'Crash' comes on but i somehow thought that maybe he would change it to Classic Rock or something but I think he thought I liked DMB so it was basically a game of chicken about who would change the station. also the longer it went on i was worried that he'd be like "why did you change it" and then because i was raised in a semi-fundamentalist strain of Mormonism it would lead to a Really Important Discussion and maybe a Strength of the Youth Fireside about appropriate choices in media and music.

Of course this was the wrong choice because the first time Dave sings "Hike up your skirt a little more/And show your world to me" lasted approximately 2.8 years in the life of a teenager and the horribly awkward silence was very tangible in the car. But that was nothing compared to the second time through where Dave just repeats himself and sings "Ohh hike up your skirt a little more/And show your world to me" because my dad just looked at me and shook his head and turned off the radio and we just drove in an entombed silence for the next forever.

i guess the good news was that it was so terrible that even he didn't want to turn it into a teaching moment and we never spoke of it again.
