I think we have forgotten to put money under the pillow at least a half dozen times.

My daughter lost a tooth yesterday and lost the actual tooth. So she wrote a letter and it was really sweet. Her older brother took the letter yesterday and wrote “Can I have more money” at the bottom. My daughter then tried to scribble that out. Then she wakes up this morning and there is no money.

So I get a crying 6 year old with a torn up letter coming into my room. She is blaming her brother for writing a greedy sentence on the letter. I came up with a story about how tooth fairies sense teeth, but when it’s letters, they only check for them every couple days. I also told her this has happened to her bothers multiple times (true).

She accepted this terrible story, my wife and I are shooting stink-face looks at each other for forgetting, the older brother is harassing us, and we will try again tonight.
