Companies usually drop earnings and news after market closes (or sometimes before market opens). Best to give people time to process things, in my opinion. Obviously, after market trading is a thing and can affect this.

Even though things are so automated, there's still a lot of jobs that are 9:30am - 4pm ET every day working while the market is open. I'm not sure what it would take or do to keep that open 24 hours.
