It is awesome. There is a book about this, we went about 25 years ago
Little Wildhorse is tough to beat, but lots of people. There are a ton of cracks through there that really are amazing to explore that go for miles back in there, and petrified wood and dinosaur bones laying around you can just pick up if you are not on a protected spot. Be careful of the uranium mines, there is all this cool glowing stuff in there and the kids love going in them but it turns out breathing the air in the mines is pretty toxic. Also if you sleep outside watch out for scorpions under your pad in the morning, one of them nicked my pinky and it hurt. We played a mud football game down on a sand bar on the river that is still legendary.

I'm jealous it was one of our better trips.
