By the way, I lived in England (mission) and am generally good at understanding
the various British accents. Probably 9 out of my favorite 10 TV shows are from the UK. But adding the subtitles have made a world of difference for me enjoying the many British shows I watch.
Some of that may be that my hearing actually is poor, I dunno 😉 But the subtitles allow me to focus less energy on understanding what words they are saying — the jokes land better, I get more of Gervais's subtle nuance, etc.
I originally didn't like the American version, because I was constantly comparing it to the British version. I pretty quickly began to enjoy the American version for what it was — but Ox nails the differences pretty well.
