I am excited to see how BYU performs this week
BYU has essentially locked up the #2 seed in the WCC. They will almost assuredly finish with the 2nd best record (even if they lose twice). They are just playing for the NCAA tourney and seeding at this point. With BYU playing arguably the other top 4 teams over the next two weeks (USF, SMC, Pepperdine, & Gonzaga), I think 1 win gets BYU a 10/11 seed, 2 wins gets BYU an 8/9 seed, 3 wins gets BYU 7 seed, and 4 wins gets BYU a 5 seed.

With respect to USF, the Dons have been struggling but have the potential to beat BYU. They beat Virginia earlier this year and have had BYU's number a fair bit. They are the only school outside of St Mary's/Gonzaga with multiple wins at the Marriott Center in the WCC era. Shabazz has been able to shoot lights out against the Cougars. BYU needed a dominating 40-15 2nd half run to comeback from an 8 point 2nd half deficit and pull out the win at San Francisco. The Dons have also had a week to prepare and get ready after 4 straight home losses. If BYU has really become a favored seed NCAA team, they should probably win comfortably but weird things happens when BYU plays USF.

With St Mary's, I think the Cougars got a little lucky in Moraga with the Gaels going over 11 minutes without a FG in the 2nd half. Even with the long scoring drought, BYU struggled to put the Gaels away not taking the lead until the 4:33 mark and it was still a 2 score game until just under the 2 minute mark. Almost all of their WCC games this year have been close (excluding Gonzaga) and with SMC playing their 3rd game of the week on Saturday night, I expect them to want to play a very ugly, slow defensive game. It would be great if BYU could jump out to an early lead and just run away and hide.

If BYU can go 2-0 this week, I really like their chances of getting a 7 seed for the tourney.
