...differ is that last year's team was better at making reads and reacting to what the defense did. Both teams (2019 and 2020) run continuity ball screen offenses but the 2019 team made it look effortless and fluid. There's a trust factor between players who have played together for a long time that TJ, Yoeli, Zac, and Dalton had that newer players like Jake, Connor, AB and Lee were able to learn from as the season progressed.
The plays we ran to start the season (without Yoeli) were very different from what we ran when he returned. To outsiders it looked like we retooled the offense mid season. What made it so effective when Yoeli returned was that at times we didn't have a post player and kept Yoeli on the perimeter which gave us 5 guys who could pick and pop or put the ball on the floor and get to the rim. When Yoeli was the 5 on the floor we ran a lot of sets to get him isolated on one side of the floor so he could take his man off the dribble and get to the rim. He was so good at it, especially when the shot clock was winding down and we just needed a bucket.
Coaches and players are starting to figure out how to better utilize Haarms in this year's offense and with players like Knell, BA, Lohner and Johnson all hitting close to 40% or better from 3 opposing defenses will have a tough time wanting to double down on Haarms because it will leave a dead-eye shooter open on the perimeter.
