4. BYU: If you’re going by history, stadium size, national fan base, etc., BYU is the clear No. 1. But it’s no secret Pac-12 presidents have never seriously entertained BYU. In 2018, former commissioner Tom Hansen told Jon Wilner it’s because BYU is not considered a major research university. The Big 12 may be more viable, though in 2016, backlash to that possibility from LGBTQ advocacy groups over language in the school’s Honor Code scared away some Big 12 presidents.
