Health insurance billing question: ER doc trying to charge me more after the negotiated payment
So, Dec. 26 2019, my daughter was coughing up blood. We took her to the ER. We had already met our out-of-pocket max for the year, so there should have been zero charge to us.

Jan. 20 2020, I changed companies, so new insurance--that complicates things only slightly. We've received a few bills from the ER doc, telling us we still owed. We called the old insurance (Cigna), and they said we were good.

We hadn't heard anything for a long time. I got a call from a collection agency today. They're still looking for money on this. We called the insurance company YET AGAIN, and they gave us the breakdown.

The ER bill sent to the insurance was $538. Cigna negotiated the price of $214. Cigna tells us after the negotiated price, patient responsibility was $0. Guess how much the collection agency wants from us? $324.

So, it looks like the insurance negotiated a price, and paid, but the ER Doc wants the rest of his original billed amount. And, now he has sent a collection agency after us. I have the documentation, I don't owe anything, how do I fight this and not ruin my credit? (if it hasn't already taken a hit).
