Currently sitting in the AmEx Lounge in Sao Paulo...what a trip to Brazil!
First things first...the Brazil that the American Media is portraying is a flat out lie. Covid is absolutely under control here. Every person, even in Favelas, has a mask on. They take your temperature walking into every building and mandate you use Alcohol as well. Incredibly awesome down here. Yes, the same safety issues exist...just don't be stupid and don't lightly hold your phone in your hand or wander where you shouldn't.
Now to the trip...12 days through Sao Paulo, Iguacu Falls and Rio. The dollar is currently trading at 5.6 to 1. It's incredible. We ate out at some of the best restaurants Brazil has to offer and the most we paid was $600 Reais for a meal or $107 for a meal that would've cost $500+ in the USA for 2 people.
The service down here from Taxi, Uber, Restaurants and Hotels was close to the best I've ever seen in all my travels. The Brazilian people are so desperate for the tourist dollars that they went above and beyond. Uber is Brazil is about 1/20 the cost in America. We took rides that in Las Vegas would cost $40 for $2 maybe $3. Insane how cheap it is.
We stayed at the Renaissance Hotel in Sao Paulo and JW Marriott in Rio (both around $85 USD per night...so cheap). Both excellent hotels. The hotel in Iguacu Falls though...easily top 2-3 I've ever stayed at in the World. We stayed at the Belmond Iguacu Falls. If you haven't stayed at a Belmond Hotel, do it. Service was insanely perfect. The Belmond in Iguacu sits overlooking the falls on the Brazilian side. We saw Toucans, monkeys galore, etc...hotel is worth every penny.
An excellent trip. If you're looking to travel, go to Brazil and do it before all the Covid restrictions lift. It was incredible. There are sites all over the country to get your Covid test to return and even one that's located in the Sao Paulo International Airport (GRU). Flights are incredibly cheap down here considering the normal prices...out of Vegas on Delta is $560 and out of SLC is $700. American has some great deals too.
