abuse victims is overwhelming. We're talking over 100,000 that have filed suit. It's hard to argue more good has been done if that number of people were abused.
And, as I've posted before on CB, as an adult leader I saw the unhealthy ways that many in the Church viewed Scouting as almost a cult within the Church. For many hardcore Scouters--and every ward had 1 or 2--Scouting was more important than getting youth on missions, than preparing them for life or career or schooling. It was the 'activity arm of the Priesthood.'
I just lost respect for hardcore Scouters and got bitter and frustrated at the damage the organization did as a result...and that's independent of the over 100,000 BSA abuse victims.
I guess my point is that I'm not sure how you quantify 'net good' between the obvious positive influence it had on many many lives MINUS the large volume of abuse victims and people who stopped coming to Church/activities because they hated Scouting. Again, I just don't know the equation.
Personally, I say good riddance.
