their charge. Thus, suits are aimed at both making the plaintiff whole--paying for medical expenses, pain and suffering, etc.--and at ensuring the responsible organization takes the necessary remedial measures to make sure it never happens again.
I don't think this is exclusive of the abusers, but they are generally addressed in criminal court and ordered to pay restitution (there is little incentive to sue them civilly because of that, but I imagine civil suits against abusers are not uncommon).
