What do you define as mainstream rap from the 90's?
By 1993, gangsta was mainstream. Besides that, Fugees, OutKast, Timbaland, Missy Elliott, Nas, Tribe - they all swore quite a bit. Usually not nearly as much as Wu-Tang Clan or Biggie, and maybe that's what you're referring to, but plenty of their radio stuff was edited.
