I believe that is the traditional process.
Ironically, because the initial injury was not very severe, we just took care of it like a one-off. Then his own "treatment" caused things to get much worse, and here we are. So insurance is getting involved at this point.

Consider this a learning experience. It's just unfortunate that you have to err on the side of caution and submit claims that will cause your premium to go up, even for a dumb injury.
