evicted, hearing gunshots, knowing people who have been murdered, knowing people who go to prison, being recruited by gangs, etc. There seriously is no thought about college because they are just focusing on survival. Much, much different than how I guess almost everybody on CB was raised.

Things will change when this changes. And this is a result of the historical institutional racism (e.g. segregation) you referenced above.

There is no easy answer. But it cannot just go away.
